By research projects, we hope to understand the situation and challenges of Chinese overseas business, in the area of business operation, labor conflicts, environmental devastation, community relationships, corporate social responsibility, and consumption of wildlife products. Furthermore, through practical programs, we hope to help Chinese overseas business develop in a more sustainable way.

We are not so different: A comparative study of employment relations at Chinese and American firms in Kenya

With The China Africa Research Initiative(CARI) School of Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University, 2017

  • Interviewed managers at Chinese and American firms operating in and around Nairobi, Kenya to find out in what ways do Chinese employers relate to Kenyan labor differently than American employers.
  • Explored the extent to which labor conditions at Chinese firms in Kenya are a function of firm nationality, as opposed to other characteristics like industry, firm size or length of time operating abroad.

Responsible Mining as a Business Strategy – Lessons from East Africa

With WWF, 2016

  • Interviewed Chinese mining companies in Kenya, Tanzania and Zambia
  • Analyzed labor relations and human resource management, environmental protection and the community relations for Chinese companies by several cases in East Africa
  • Concluded the benefits of company CSR strategies according to the research

  • Explored potential methodology to engage Chinese communities in Africa regarding wildlife conservation

  • Collected a significant amount of data within Chinese companies in DRC, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe
  • Researched across timber business, gold mining, copper mining, cotton plantation and so on
  • Supported further analysis of Chinese business in Africa and sustainable development
