ABOUT CHINA HOUSE
China House is an NGO aiming to integrate China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) into global sustainable development. We do research to understand overseas Chinese businesses and Chinese communities in the Global South, mainly in Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. With such understanding, we conduct conservation and social projects to connect overseas Chinese with the sustainable development of the local community. We also hope to cultivate a new generation of Chinese global citizens by engaging them in these research and projects to promote the development of both China and the rest of the world. ​

  • Research experience with over 5000 overseas SME/SOE Chinese enterprises across 20 sectors and engagement with 160,000 Chinese individuals through direct advocacy campaigns.

MEET THE TEAM

HUANG HONGXIANG
FOUNDER & CEO

 Since 2011, working with international media and NGOs, Huang has reported on and researched Chinese overseas investment and socio-environmental conflict. His investigation into the global ivory trade was featured in the Oscar-shortlisted film The Ivory Game. Dr. Jane Goodall has called him "my hero" for his courage in fighting for elephants. In 2018, Huang was awarded by Forbes China as a “30 Under 30” in the social enterprise category. Huang graduated from the School of Journalism at Fudan University and holds an MPA in development practice from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA). He is also one of the Alumni Ambassadors of SIPA's MPA-DP program.

​Featured in the documentary, Chinese Women of the Post-90s Generation in Africa, Zoe has conducted research in seven African countries on projects about Chinese overseas businesses and wildlife conservation. In 2017, her story was featured on the CCTV news program, “China Has Me.” In 2018, speaking as a youth representative in a special program of the show “Voice,” which focused on the One Belt, One Road initiative in Kenya. In 2019, she was invited to give a speech about China-Africa relations in "Asia Day" hosted by Copenhagen University Business School.

LYU YANRAN
PROJECT DIRECTOR

Graduated from the Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University, Yanran has rich experience on international development. She has worked for several international organizations, such as UNEP, IUCN, TRAFFIC, UNDPA, as a consultant. She has been to over 20 countries to do field research and development projects on overseas Chinese investment, community development and environment & wildlife conservation since 2014.

LI SHUHAN
COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR

With professional working experience in Tencent, Ogilvy, IDC consulting, Shuhan experiences in marketing and branding, and is good at combining students' interests with their long-term activity planning. She has been to Ethiopia, Kenya, and other countries to conduct field research on Chinese enterprises' going out and women empowerment.
